Adriel Huntress

2nd Challenge - Adriel Huntress

All aboard!! Come travel the world with me through 2 of the most vibrant cultures in the world – India and The Philippines. I chose these two heritages because of their similarity with lush fabrics and lively colours, making you feel alive as you slip into them. My outfit begins with an Indian inspired top from Bilo which matches perfectly with the Philippine inspirited skirt, designed by CHAMPAGNE!, aptly named PHILIPPINES HEROINE. My hips want to immediately give a little shake to show off the amazing belt. The yellow Indian inspired shoulder drape created by Arya Boutique is adorned with a tropical flower from Soedara combining the traditional with that little bit of whimsy.

Jamee Sandalwood

COC 2nd Challenge - Jamee Sandalwood

Heritage; such an important word, yet sometimes is so easily overlooked and forgotten in today’s world. Put simply, it is those things passed down in a family that are unseen – traditions, cultures, practices and values that become a part of who you are, and are bestowed when you are born simply because of your ancestral history. Heritage was always strong in my family. Growing up in a mixed heritage family has molded me into the person I am today, and is part of my decision making process in everything I do. I am so proud of the four that I identify with – Spanish Gypsy, Italian, Scottish and Swedish. In the outfit I have created to demonstrate my ties to my mixed heritage, I chose to focus on the Spanish Gypsy and the Scottish; one from my Mom’s side and one from my Dad’s side of the family.

I love how easily all of this fits together into a cohesive outfit, just as all of it melds together to create cohesion in my life. The Scottish side is shown in this outfit with the Tartan Plaid characteristic of the Scottish heritage. I chose the Zara Skirt in Plum from Artilleri not only for the gorgeous plaid, but also because the style of the skirt was longer as is typical of a Scottish dancer doing a traditional folkdance. The tartan shawl is created from the Mesh, Laced Shawl Template from Sheva and I added the same tartan texture of the skirt. The Spanish Gypsy heritage is shown in the sheer, laced flounces on the blouse along with the choices in jewelry. To create the blouse I’ve combined the White Laced Blouse with Peasant Sleeves from TorMe and the Purple Modest Tank Top from Gawk! to give the layered look I was going for. My necklace features round, gypsy style coins in four combined chains and is from Maxi Gossamer as are the Valencia Earrings I am wearing.

The Susan Stilettos from Stiletto Moody in Aubergine reminded me of the traditional Scottish Dance shoes, yet in a more modern, contemporary style. My hair, Anise in Mocha from Truth, features a bold, purple headband and long wavy tresses that are very much Gypsy in style. The Shantal Pose #1 from Morgane Batista captures the essence of my heritage perfectly. Metallic Violet Nails from PurpleMoon coordinate beautifully with the Mock Cosmetics Pantone Spring Collection Eyeshadow in African Violet and put the finishing touches on this contemporary update of my heritage I’m so proud to be representing!

Sweet, salty … black and white .. yin and yang …. My heritage is a mix of two cultures, two aspect of fashion that perfectly ..

On the one hand the typical printed africa. Here I chose the zebra found in some traditonnels clothes …. It is slightly glittery and color to brighten up my dress … on the other side the elegance of high fashion western face by Eastern gold jewelry.

This mixture come away sobriety of exotic cocktail attire that represents me quite .. yes exotic … this is what I am ♫

——————————————-
Cultural heritage is the legacy of physical artifacts (cultural property) and intangible attributes of a group or society that are inherited from past generations, maintained in the present and bestowed for the benefit of future generations. It includes tangible culture (such as buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, and artifacts), intangible culture (such as folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge), and natural heritage (including culturally significant landscapes, and biodiversity).
In this entry I wanted to pay homage to two important cultures: chinese and pakistani, giving it a modern twist and presenting an actual fresh look.
The result of this styling mixed the rich vivid colors and embroideries featured in the chinese style dress, with the typical oriental patterns shown in the pakistani pants fabric.
The scarf aroud the head frames the face and it’s also an important feature in the majority of women of that country, but I chose a bold one in yellow, as well as the eye-catching makeup and actual bag to symbolize the present.
Minimal flats in animal print pay a little homage to my African origins.

Puhi Rotaru

CoC 2nd Challenge ~ Puhi Rotaru ~ Mixed Heritage

For this challenge, I chose to mix a part of my Asian heritage, with a little part of India and Egypt mixed in, as I styled with the thought in mind of an Asian Ninja and an India/Egyptian Belly Dancer . Some believed it was an Egyptian form of dance that was incorporated with Indian dancing a few hundred years later. Which ever way it came forth, I believe Belly Dancing is a Sensual Dance for any heritage, and Ninja’s represent a disciplined and spiritual presence in Asian Culture’s.
for a detailed history of Ninja and Belly dance, please click on links below:

I also loved this style as it allowed me to use my imagination to blend together what I thought was a magnificent mix. Please enjoy !

2ND CHALLENGE - Selina Graycloud

Theme: Mixed Heritage

Mixed heritage: Japanese & Afro-Brazilian
Pose: Morgane’s Runway – Mimmi Boa Pose 1
Inspiration: www.wafrica.jp
Style Card:
Kimono: Meli Imako
Shoes: Nadia Okobo Laquer Red
Hair: BOON KTW810
Parasol: CI Geisha Parasol green
Face Paint – HANDverk Arbore
Lipstick: Ventura
Eyeshadow: Mock Pantone Tender Shoots
Head Piece: Feel Wisteria Hairpiece

Reason: In my search to find a unique way to blend both the Japanese and Afro-Brazilian Heritages, I came across an article in Wikipedia which showed a picture of a Japanese Brazilian Miko during a festival (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Brazilian). I then sought out to find a Kimono that represented both of the heritages proudly. Running across Serge Mouangue’s Kimono collection set my creative juices flowing and I worked fast to try and create that special look. I especially loved the African Face paint as the final touch to the Kimono as well.

A special thank you to Morgane Batista whom I landed on a few times while trying to get to her store…lol :).

Second challenge for Colour of couture : Mixed heritage.

A person’s identity is made up of their own character combined with their family and social roots. Why i chose the native, to represent this challenge. because to me they are the roots to any country formation of today They lived and build the world we are part of it now. A world with out all the commodities we know now. Still they survived. They survived mass genocide of their culture and identity to create the world we know. Most are only part of our history but no matter what country a person is from, it started with the Native heritage.
