- Why have you entered Colour of Couture – Top Model Competition?
Kestrel is a mixed race woman of color. She has lived in New Toulouse Bayou since she first rezzed in sl. New Toulouse is a light role play community based on late 19th/early 20th century New Orleans and surrounding areas. In this community, Kestrel is a Creole woman of Spanish and African descent. Because of this, I thought Colour of Couture would be a good opportunity for Kestrel to express her culture through fashion and grow as an ethnic fashion model.
- What particular qualities, personality & style should Miss Colour of Couture posess?
Miss Colour of Couture should be a visible presence in the sl fashion world. She should be strong and a good leader as well as a team player and a woman who offers help and encouragement to aspiring models of color in sl fashion. She should be willing to share what she has learned. Her style should reflect the work of designers who are persons of color and it should also reflect rl ethnic and culturally diverse trends and designs. Ultimately, second life modeling is a visual practice and Miss Colour of Couture should take advantage of this to enhance the visual presence of women of color in fashion and in the world.
- What are your thoughts and feelings about fashion in Second Life?
What is your role as a Woman of Colour in SL Fashion?
Second life modeling is a creative, visual practice. It is also an economic practice and a charitable practice. Second life fashion follows the rl fashion world and gives artists, designers, content creators, and models the opportunity to learn and participate in this exciting world. People I have met in sl fashion are so generous with their creativity and more than willing to use their skills to benefit charities, which connects sl fashion to rl in a very beneficial way. People learn and express themselves through fashion and help others at the same time.
My role as a woman of color in sl fashion is to continually develop and refine my skills to create and maintain a visible presence as a member of the community who is a woman of color.
- How will you promote the Miss Colour of Couture competition as a finalist?
How will you promote the title of Miss CoC should you win?
As a finalist, I will complete all my assignments to the best of my ability. I will represent my self as a MCOC finalist on my Facebook and Flickr and by wearing my competition tag when out in public. I will answer any questions I might receive about the competition and encourage aspiring models of color to participate in future years.
If I am chosen as MCOC, I will meet all my official obligations to the best of my ability. I will support designers of color by wearing their designs whenever I can. I will encourage aspiring models to participate in the competition and if asked, try to help with advice to the best that I can. I will maintain an visible presence through blogging and flicker and work hard to increase my photography skills to use them to give a visible presence to other models of color.
- What sort of impression would you like people to have of you if win the title?
What impression would you like to leave with them if you do not win?
I think the impression I want people to have is the same, whether I win or not. I believe in this competition and I will work hard to do the best I can. To play even a small part to help to give a voice and presence to women of color is an honor. Even if I am not selected as MCOC, I will offer assistance to the model who is chosen in whatever way she may need, but especially if she needs an extra set of hands to help with her charity event. I want people to remember that I believe in this competition and I think it is a good thing.
- What do you envision your activity in SL to be a year from now?
What goals and ambitions do you have?
I want very much to be a content creator of some kind. I would like to become a professional sl photographer. I am interested in learning how to design and make clothes. I am interested in learning about creating fashion shows. I am interested in pose making. So a year from now I seem myself still modeling and being a part of the fashion industry, but there is a lot to learn here and I see myself learning and increasing my skills so I can make more of a contribution.
