  • Why have you entered Colour of Couture – Top Model Competition?
  • This is a very meaningful competition to me because I find women with colours are often not given enough attention and priority in the world, be it RL or SL, and this competition does not only help create more awareness to ethnic women in SL but also a great platform to celebrate the diversity and help others appreciate the differences we offer in Second Life. This contest also brings me back to my roots. Born as a Southeast Asian in RL, I would like to take this opportunity to help people in the world to understand a little more about the Southeast Asia region. Also, I am aspire to help put the Southeast Asian models on the SL map.

  • What particular qualities, personality & style should Miss Colour of Couture posess?
  • I believe Miss CoC must be a good role model in embracing the meaning of diversity, not just in terms of colours of the skins but also diversity in terms of cultures, ideas and backgrounds. She is the inspiration to all women of colours, to be comfortable and proud of their origins and who they are.

  • What are your thoughts and feelings about fashion in Second Life?

What is your role as a Woman of Colour in SL Fashion?

  • Fashion in Second Life is very vibrant and exciting, while competitive. With this we get to experience new things almost everyday, either it is a new design or a completely new creation and because it is mirroring RL really close and because this is Second Life, it offers residents in SL the access of different experience which they would otherwise hard to get in RL. Fashion in SL also plays a big part in helping my imagination take shape here.

Fashion is a huge and influential industry in SL, and definitely a very diversified community. Being a Woman of Colour in the SL Fashion, I strive to represent the designers, demonstrating the versatility of their creations not just using my styling skills, but also through ethnic influence using colors and ideas.

  • How will you promote the Miss Colour of Couture competition as a finalist?

How will you promote the title of Miss CoC should you win?

  • I believe it is important to help others understand the meaning behind of the CoC competition and what the CoC organization would like to achieve through this event by using channels such a blog post, flickr and magazine interviews. Our styling challenges are great learning experience for me in other ethnic culture and I would love to share what I learned with others. I know a lot of models are skeptical about participating in this competition because this is the first year and they do not know what to expect. It is important to share experience and offer people some insights to our events so they know this is a very meaningful and great experience.

There are great responsibilities carrying the Miss CoC title. In fact I feel it is greater than Miss Virtual World because, should I win, I will have this added responsibilities of not just setting a great example of being a top model in SL, but also being one with woman of colour. My approach would be combining the education and promotion of the title of Miss CoC together through partnership with various channels and media.

  • What sort of impression would you like people to have of you if win the title?

What impression would you like to leave with them if you do not win?

  • Whether I win the title or not, I would like to walk away with others believing that I have embraced and truly lived the meaningful of diversity. I also would do my best to put the Southeast Asian model on the map of SL fashion world that at the end of this competition everyone will know more of the characteristics of a Southeast Asian beauty and what we have to offer; and also at the end of the competition, everyone will recognize Ai Hienrichs as a beauty from Southeast Asia. πŸ™‚

  • What do you envision your activity in SL to be a year from now?

What goals and ambitions do you have?

  • It will be an exciting and forward looking year with new responsibilities and learning opportunity. I strived to be a knowledgeable and experienced mentor and teacher to new models and I look forward to learn from them of their new ideas and the culture they bring with them to SL.

On personal level, I like to have my own sim eventually and create quality accessories. I also would like to continue to help my mentors and sponsors to continue to be successful in whatever they are doing.

  • Briefly summarize your professional career as a model in SL?
  • I am a graduate from the MVW and currently a Model Trainee with the Passion – The Fashion Agency. I am blessed to be represented by some really established modeling agencies in SL. I have print, editorial, live and runway experience but I can never learned everything I need to know about SL fashion so I feel everyday I am still learning something new.

I am also a fashion blogger. I have my own blog and I also blog for some reputable designers and magazine.

Other experience I had was working as a Store and Event Manager for a reputable and long standing fashion brand in SL.

Feel free to check my blog and flickr for details of my credentials.

  • Do you have any additional comments you would wish to share?
  • I am proud to be one of the finalists of CoC, being part of such a great and meaningful event, and I look forward to the next couple of weeks, getting to know the rest of the finalists from different culture.

I can never count my blessings enough as I believe I have been blessed with meeting some really talented and kind people in SL, who believe in and supported me, allowing my imagination to take shape. Working hand in hand, I hope we will be able to achieve something greater and bigger in the future.

Also thanking the committees and Organizer of the CoC in such an inspiring and unique event.

I’ve always put my tag CoC group where it says I’m a finalist. Post the photos on my blog or flickr about my participation in the competition.
If I won the title of Miss Colour of Couture, I will have one year to promote wherever I go the event, capturing new girls like myself accountable to enjoy this world of fashion with responsibility and passion. • I have entered the Colour of Couture competition because; the mission of this contest is to promote models of color in a positive light. Personally, as an exclusive model of color, I support the idea that a woman of color can be fashionable, creative and have substance in mainstream of fashion.

  • What particular qualities, personality & style should Miss Colour of Couture posess?
  • In particular Miss Coulor of Couture should have certain qualities. Some of the main qualities should be: the ability to adapt, be positive and have integrity. On a more personal level, Miss Colour of Couture should be, helpful, compassionate and approachable. As far as style Miss Coulor of Couture should be creative, unconventional and have a general understanding that fashion has many different genres and be able to embrace them with ease.

  • What are your thoughts and feelings about fashion in Second Life?

What is your role as a Woman of Colour in SL Fashion?

  • Fashion in Second life has evolved of the years and is continuing to grow and coincide with Real Life mainstream fashion. In the Second Life fashion world it has reached a point where knowledge of the current trends is necessary. However, I do think with Second Life fashion, it is just as necessary to be unconventional, creative and unique. My role as a woman of colour in Second life fashion is to be creative, know trends, experiment and always grow as a Model

  • How will you promote the Miss Colour of Couture competition as a finalist?

How will you promote the title of Miss CoC should you win?

  • I would like the impression of me, if I were to win, to know that the title was won with good sportsmanship and the title would not change the way I normally carry myself but rather, have it be a privileged extension of my positive qualities. If i do not win, I would like the impression to be the same that I was have good sportsmanship, did my best, and am pleased with knowing the right woman has won the title.

  • What do you envision your activity in SL to be a year from now?

  • II would like to share that I am very excited and thankful to have this opportunity to be involved with this great competition. I think it necessary that Models and Women of color, with in the fashion industry, are able to showcase their talents in the mainstream. Too, often Models of color are over looked or categorized “exotic”, with- in fashion and mainstream. Events like Colour of Couture are a great avenue to promote beauty, style, artistic, and grace of so many Models of color. Thank you for having me!

LeezahKaddour

My essence

  • Why have you entered Colour of Couture – Top Model Competition?
  • I’ve entered this contest because it seemed appealing from the very first time I saw the posts announcing it through Flickr.
I am a newcomer model but as a real life ebony woman I thought it was a nice chance to represent my roots and heritage here in Second Life, and to bring awareness of the infinte looks, capabilities and fierceness of all ebony women within the Second Life Fashion Industry.

  • What particular qualities, personality & style should Miss Colour of Couture posess?
  • I think Miss Colour of Couture needs to posess the basic qualities that make of any model a referent to be followed by others: ability to style, impeccable behavior, perfection in any tasks she’s asssigned to perform, a commanding presence wherever she goes, and a charming and friendly personality. She has to be an ambassador representing the vast range of women of colour in Second Life and also in the Second Life fashion industry: a complete role model for us all.

  • What are your thoughts and feelings about fashion in Second Life?

What is your role as a Woman of Colour in SL Fashion?

  • As I said before I am fairly new in the modeling industry and just performing my first steps in this huge career, I am currently educating myself and learning how to make the best model possible out of myself, I’ve always loved fashion (I am a retired Real Life model), it was a way to express my inner self and personality through it so it felt natural to me to pick up my career where I left it in Real Life and try to succeed by doing the same here in Second Life.
From what I could see so far, Second Life fashion is full of endless possibilities, creativity, imagination, colors, textures, patterns and designs and my aim as a Woman of Colour is to bring those creations to life by adding my personal ethnic touch to each outfit I wear or showcase.

  • How will you promote the Miss Colour of Couture competition as a finalist?

How will you promote the title of Miss CoC should you win?

  • Well, as a finalist I’ll try to mantain my Flickr account and social network account (Moolto) updated with pics of the challenges going on during the competition, as well as featuring the contest and my finalist status in my picks and in my profiles for each site and Second Life.
If I have the honor to win, I would love to represent the Women of Colour within my highest standards possible, by promoting the CoC Organization in different events and shows,by blogging if I am required to do so and by holding charity events that can benefit different organizations related to what my title is representing. I would like to work also with the CoC Organization in helping and planning the next year’s edition and be there for what they would need, working along with them.
Currently I am being involved with the UEMA Agency management in a project to bring social recognition to Ebony Models in Second Life, by bringing them to the forefront to join their caucasian counterparts. We are still in the very first planning stage of our project, but I felt very happy that they thought also that it was time for the Ebony Models in Second Life to take their place in the industry and shine in their profession as any other model has the chance to do.

  • What sort of impression would you like people to have of you if win the title?

What impression would you like to leave with them if you do not win?

  • I think in both cases I would like people to think of me as a hardworking person, with a passion for fashion and a compassionate heart, someone who was true to herself during the entire contest and that worked hard to be the best she could be.

  • What do you envision your activity in SL to be a year from now?

What goals and ambitions do you have?

  • At the moment, I really don’t know where my Second Life modeling career could take me and if I will have a chance to succeed but if I am given the chance to dream then a year from now I would love to find myself established and working within the Second Life Fashion industry in a regular basis.
My goal is to be a good model, representing designers and their creations at my very best possible. My ambition would be some day to be recognized in the SL industry as an estimated ebony model, with impeccable behavior and style.

  • Briefly summarize your professional career as a model in SL?
  • So far I am a student at Outrageous Glamour Academy and I plan to continue instructing myself as much as I can.
I am a model for UEMA Modeling Agency & Academy and I had the chance to participate in two print projects so far: one for photographer Cardozo Paolino and I was asked by the Azoury CEO and Creator, Mayhem Seetan, to pose for one of her upcoming vendors.

  • Do you have any additional comments you would wish to share?
  • Just to say I feel thrilled and very honored to be selected as a finalist for this competition. I feel more than happy to have the chance to represent my roots and heritage through this contest and in general in Second Life and I will do my best to make everyone proud. Thank you πŸ™‚

Debbie Jasper

Debbie Jasper for Miss Colour of Couture Competition 2012

  • Why have you entered Colour of Couture – Top Model Competition?
  • First, it is a competition that is close to my heart. Asian faces in high fashion in RL and SL are few and far between and being a Chinese with Indonesian mixed heritage in RL and SL, I will be glad to be able to bring mainstream awareness to Woman of Colour in SL Fashion.

Secondly, it is an opportunity to take me out of my comfort zone as I stretch my creativity in bringing the RL fashion that is shaped by our rich cultures and heritage into SL through the many challenges in this competition.

  • What particular qualities, personality & style should Miss Colour of Couture posess?
  • Apart from being professional and a woman of poise and mannerism and having qualities such as having high self-esteem, trustworthy, perseverance, and a respect for others, I think she should also possess qualities that set her apart from the majority.

Always bringing a classic, yet creative talent to the scene. She implements the most sought after work ethics and is guaranteed to be the person that you want to use over and over again.

Last but not least, an excellent role model whom others look up to and admire. She provides inspiration and motivation to seek out accomplishments and sends messages about their beliefs by what they do and say.

  • What are your thoughts and feelings about fashion in Second Life?

What is your role as a Woman of Colour in SL Fashion?

  • I have seen how models brought the creativity of RL fashion into SL fashion world but to a much greater height. SL allows every possibility for us to live our dreams and passion that we have and perhaps not able to fulfil in RL. It is amazing how with a little time and effort, we are able to showcase our fantasy through fashion that tells a story.

As a Woman of Colour in SL fashion, I would want to display a strong sense of confidence in order to pull any ensemble off. Although the old saying goes that the clothes make the man, in this case it is the wearer that makes the clothes. Looking into adding style and personality that is greatly influenced by the rich cultures of southeast asia in very creations of all designers and to create a deeper awareness of the fashion industry of Asia than ever before.

  • How will you promote the Miss Colour of Couture competition as a finalist?

How will you promote the title of Miss CoC should you win?

  • As of now, I have added the title of a finalist of Miss Colour of Couture in my profile. And definitely I will blog all my styling, thoughts, learning and experiences in this wonderful journey that I will be discovering. By word of mouth among my friends.

If I win the title of Miss CoC, definitely, I will be wearing my tag proudly and add the picks in my profile. I would like to be involved in many charities and shows that help promote SL fashion through the eye of a Woman of Colour. I will hold dearly the values of my heritage and manifest the best in my SL work and relationship with everyone.

  • What sort of impression would you like people to have of you if win the title?

What impression would you like to leave with them if you do not win?

  • If I win, I would like to be a role model who inspire and encourage excellence in achieving our goals. However, the learning journey is never ending and to excel as a top model, I have to continue to learn from others who have already achieved the title of a top supermodel in SL. I would like to be even better each day and to keep abreast of the fast changing of the fashion industry.

If I do not win, I will not be discouraged as I believe I would have already learn much along the way being one of the finalists in the Miss CoC contest. I will show to the world that with perseverance, hard work, continuous learning and being humble, we will definitively achieve our dreams someday.

  • What do you envision your activity in SL to be a year from now?

What goals and ambitions do you have?

  • I hope I will be given more opportunity to work beyond being a model on the runway. I am now working on my photography and blogging skills and I will definitely want to be able to showcase and create more awareness of SL fashion through great pictures and blogging.

I will want to share my knowledge as a model in SL as a trainer in established model academies. To work more closely with fashion designers and become the face of a well-known brand.

  • Briefly summarize your professional career as a model in SL?
  • I started my first modelling training with Classic with Style in June last year. After which it is a never turning back road for me. The journey is not easy but it is very exciting. I have since then graduated from Lush Model Academy and Costa Rico Sands Modelling Academy and am now currently enrolled in Miss Virtual World Academy.

Apart from some of the fashion shows that I have attended, I was also involved in the Model Workshop Spring Break Spring Forward Show as the Runway Director Assistant and in their Manhattan Show as the Hostess.

I was the winner for the Model Workshop March Style Challenge and 2nd in their February Challenge. I was the model of the year 2012 in the Dallas Modelling Corporation Model of the year Contest. I too have achieved 4th runner up and Ms Sexy Talent and Creative in CWS’s SL Too Sexy Model Pageant last year.

Currently, I am working as a store model in EVOLVE and I am enjoying every day of it to be one of the first to style and blog Reign’s new creation.

  • “I get inspired by pushing boundaries and this is one of those opportunities to experiment and learn.” – Giorgio Armani on Second Life

I would like to thank the committee and organisers and judges who have faith in me and have given me this opportunity to experiment and learn and to prove to myself and everyone that with determination and passion anything is possible in Second Life.

I too would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have one way or another guided and walked with me in this challenging but rewarding journey since day 1. No words could express my gratitude and how much all your comments and help have meant to me. A BIG THANK YOU. (^_^)
